A separate peer-reviewed study published in 2023 found that attorneys are twice as likely as the general working population to experience suicidal ideation — and that attorneys with high perceived stress are 22 times more likely to contemplate suicide than those with low stress.

These are not personal failings. They are the predictable consequences of a profession that demands relentless performance, tolerates no visible weakness, and provides very little formal support for the people inside it.
You were trained to advocate and execute under pressure, to suppress what you feel, and to project confidence — regardless of your internal state. That training serves a purpose in the courtroom and in negotiations, but it can hurt you outside the law.
Attorneys come to counseling for many different reasons.
And some are here because they are considering suicide.
Whatever brings you here, it is a valid reason to seek help.
Why Four Pillars
Four Pillars offers something rare: an owner who practiced law, who understands the profession's demands, and who has lived its culture.
That experience matters. From the initial consultation call to the end of your journey at Four Pillars, you will work with a counselor who intimately understands the legal profession. You won't have to explain terms of art. You won't have to explain why certain experiences exact the emotional and physical toll they do. You are working with a peer — not a counselor with second-hand knowledge of your industry.
What this means for you
The work can begin from the first session — not after you've spent weeks providing context.
A Note on Confidentiality
What you discuss in counseling stays in counseling, with very narrow, limited, legally mandated exceptions (e.g., child or elder abuse or neglect).
If you have specific concerns about confidentiality and how it applies to your situation, that is an appropriate and welcome topic for your free consultation call.
Where and How We Meet
Texas clients are seen exclusively via HIPAA-compliant video.
Arkansas clients throughout the state are seen via HIPAA-compliant video.
Clients in the Bella Vista and Bentonville area have the additional option of meeting in person.
Sessions are structured but always flexible enough to accommodate each client's unique situation and needs.
